Privacy Policy — RockHound-GO
Last updated: May 2026 · Effective immediately
RockHound-GO is built by collectors, for collectors. We never sell your personal data.
1. Information We Collect
We collect information you provide directly (name, email, profile data), information generated through app use (specimens scanned, locations visited, field sessions logged), and device/technical data (device type, OS, approximate location when permission granted). We do NOT collect precise GPS coordinates without explicit permission, payment card numbers (handled by Stripe), or biometric data.
2. How We Use Your Information
Your data is used to power AI mineral identification and collection management; provide personalized field recommendations and seasonal alerts; enable community features (Trade Board, Rock ID Battle, leaderboards); calculate XP, streaks, and achievements; improve identification accuracy (aggregated, anonymized); and send transactional emails (receipts, alerts you subscribed to). We do not sell your personal data to third parties. Ever.
3. Location Data
Location is used only when you explicitly grant permission and only for map-based features (nearby locations, proximity alerts), field session GPS tracking (if enabled), and geo-fenced daily challenges. You can revoke location permission at any time in your device settings. Stealth Mode (Profile → Privacy) obfuscates your location in community-facing features. Child accounts never share location data.
4. Data Sharing
We share data only with service providers: hosting (Base44), payments (Stripe), AI (Google Gemini) — each under strict data processing agreements; law enforcement only when legally required with valid court order; and with your consent for community posts, trade listings, and public spottings you choose to share. Community content you post is public by default. You can delete your posts at any time.
5. Data Retention & Deletion
Your collection data is retained as long as your account is active. You can export your full data at any time via the Collection Export page, delete individual specimens/sessions/posts at any time, or request full account deletion by emailing privacy@rockhoundgo.com — we process deletions within 30 days. Aggregated, anonymized community data may be retained after account deletion.
6. Children's Privacy (COPPA)
Children under 13 require a parent/guardian to create an account via the Parental Dashboard. Child accounts never share location data publicly, have community content filtered, cannot access Trade Board or marketplace, and cannot have payment methods. Parents can review, modify, or delete child account data at any time via the Parental Dashboard.
7. Security
We implement industry-standard security including TLS 1.3 encryption for all data in transit, AES-256 encryption for data at rest, role-based access controls, and regular security audits. If you discover a security vulnerability, please report it to security@rockhoundgo.com.
8. Your Rights (GDPR / CCPA)
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have rights to access the personal data we hold about you, correct inaccurate data, request deletion (right to be forgotten), object to certain processing, and data portability (export in machine-readable format). To exercise these rights, email privacy@rockhoundgo.com. We respond within 30 days.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as our features evolve. Material changes will be communicated via in-app notification and email at least 30 days before taking effect. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance.

1. Acceptance of Terms
By creating an account or using RockHound-GO, you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, do not use the App. These terms apply to all users including free, premium, and child accounts managed by parents. We may update these terms with 30 days notice for material changes. Continued use constitutes acceptance.
2. Eligibility & Accounts
You must be 13 or older to create an account. Users under 18 require parental consent. Parents creating child accounts via the Parental Dashboard take full responsibility for their child's activity. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activity under your account. Notify us immediately of unauthorized access at support@rockhoundgo.com.
3. Acceptable Use
You agree NOT to: post false or misleading location data, mineral identifications, or trade listings; harass, threaten, or harm other community members; use the app to facilitate illegal collecting on protected or private land; scrape, reverse-engineer, or commercially exploit app data without written permission; create fake accounts or manipulate XP/leaderboard systems; or post content that is illegal, harmful, or violates third-party rights. Violations may result in immediate account suspension or termination without refund.
4. Community Content
Content you post (discovery photos, location reviews, trade listings, forum posts) remains yours. By posting, you grant RockHound-GO a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to display, distribute, and use that content within the app and for promotional purposes. We reserve the right to remove any content that violates these terms without notice.
5. Collecting & Legal Compliance
RockHound-GO provides informational tools including legality scoring, land status data, and permit information. This data is community-sourced and AI-assisted and is NOT legal advice. You are solely responsible for verifying the legality of collecting at any location before visiting. Laws vary by jurisdiction and land status changes. Always verify with the relevant land management agency (BLM, USFS, NPS, state, etc.). RockHound-GO assumes no liability for citations, fines, or legal consequences arising from collecting activity.
6. Subscriptions & Payments
Premium subscriptions are billed monthly or annually via Stripe. Prices are displayed at checkout and may change with 30 days notice. Cancellations take effect at the end of the current billing period — you retain premium access until then. We do not provide prorated refunds for partial periods except where required by law. Free trial periods (if offered) convert automatically to paid unless cancelled before the trial ends.
7. Trade Board & Marketplace
The Trade Board and Marketplace are peer-to-peer platforms. RockHound-GO is not a party to any transaction between users. We do not guarantee the accuracy of listings, condition of specimens, or completion of trades. Users transact at their own risk. Fraudulent listings should be reported via the in-app flag system.
8. AI Features & Accuracy
AI identification, valuation estimates, mineral predictions, weather reports, and other AI-generated content are provided for informational purposes only. AI identification is not a substitute for expert mineralogical analysis. Valuation estimates are not professional appraisals. We make no warranty regarding the accuracy, completeness, or fitness for purpose of AI-generated content.
9. Disclaimers & Limitation of Liability
THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND. WE DISCLAIM ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING MERCHANTABILITY AND FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE. TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, ROCKHOUND-GO SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF THE APP. Our total liability to you for any claim shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the 12 months preceding the claim.
10. Governing Law & Disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of the United States. Any dispute arising from these terms or your use of the App shall be resolved by binding arbitration under JAMS rules, not in court, except that either party may seek injunctive relief in court for intellectual property claims. You waive any right to participate in class action lawsuits against RockHound-GO.
