Accuracy depends on photo quality, lighting, and specimen condition. Clear, well-lit photos of clean specimens give the best results. Accuracy decreases with dirty specimens, unusual angles, or very rare minerals. Always verify with physical property testing for important IDs.

Use natural or bright indoor light, get within 6–12 inches of the specimen, fill the frame with the rock, and photograph multiple angles including the freshly broken surface (if safe). Avoid shadows and blurry images.

Yes — select 'fossil' as the expected type before scanning. Our system handles common fossils well, but rare or fragmentary specimens may need expert verification.

Misidentification usually occurs with weathered surfaces, mineral coatings, or specimens with similar-looking properties. Try scanning a fresh surface or use the Geo Tutor to help narrow it down with physical tests.

Open the Map, tap the '+' button, and drop a pin at your site. Fill in minerals found, access notes, and land status. Your submission goes through community review before appearing publicly.

'Safe Public' (green) = confirmed public land with free collecting. 'Likely Legal' (blue) = probably OK but verify. 'Use Caution' (yellow) = unclear ownership or restrictions. 'High Risk' (red) = likely private, claimed, or protected land.

On the Offline Map page, select your region and download it before your trip. Downloaded tiles work without cell service. Note that location data syncs when you reconnect.

Visit the Trade Board to list specimens for trade, sale, or free giveaway. Contact is handled via email between collectors.

Free accounts include 5 AI scans per month, the community map, and basic collection management. Guests can try 1 scan per device without an account. Paid plans have higher scan limits and additional tools; see Pricing for each plan's limits.

Go to Billing & Account → Manage Subscription → Cancel. Your premium access continues until the end of your billing period.

Yes. All data is encrypted at rest and in transit. We never sell personal data. You can export or delete your account data at any time from Profile settings.

Location is used only for map features and nearby alerts — never stored or shared without your consent. You can enable Stealth Mode in Privacy settings to obfuscate your field coordinates.

Yes — Parental Dashboard allows setting up child accounts with restricted map data, community content filters, and no location sharing.
